Chain Bridge
The list of places to see in Budapest is quite extensive, but I would like to mention the last member of the magnificent trio: the Chain Bridge; Along with the Parliament Building and St. Stephen's Basilica, it is among the 3 important symbols of the city.
Chain Bridge, which was built by Szechenyi between 1842 and 1849, took its name from the hanging chains that offer an interesting view. This historic and impressive building lies on the Danube River, which divides Budapest into the Pest and Buda regions.
Although the Chain Bridge is the original name, Hungarian people also call it the Lion Bridge because there are lion statues at the feet and entrances of the bridge.
After the bridge was destroyed in the Second World War, it was rebuilt in accordance with its original design. One of the reasons why the bridge has gained an important place in the history of the city is that it connects Buda and Pest; Thus, the people were saved from having to go through great difficulties to go from one to the other.
If you have to cross this bridge frequently when you go to Budapest, you will have the chance to watch the beauties of the building as well as the view of the Danube and the city. The bridge, which shines a different beauty with the lights in the evening, is open to pedestrian walks on both sides.
Also, the legend; In other words, it is not known whether it is true, but the architect of the bridge believed that everything was perfect that he said that he would commit suicide if a mistake was found after the bridge was finished. As a result, no one found fault with the bridge, except for a small child. The boy realized that lions do not have a tongue.
It is said that architect William Clark tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Danube but did not die. I would say don't leave without seeing the Chain Bridge, which is also associated with a sad story.
For Those Who Want Accommodation With Bridge View…
The area where the Chain Bridge is located is one of the most beautiful places to stay in the city center. If you prefer these areas for accommodation, you can take a look at the 4-star Prestige Hotel Budapest, located right next to the bridge.
